Me

“Sarah has the amazing ability to zoom in and out. She thinks about the whole process end to end - and all the details along the way, and how all the elements intersect and interact, now and in the future.

She’s able to pick up and learn about new things quickly. She has a great eye(…) and ensures her work/outputs are of a very high quality.”

Hi, I'm Sarah.

The Snapshot...

I am a UX/UI designer who explores the intersection of creativity and logic, marrying design and innovation with processes to create elegant, functional technology and craft intuitive user experiences.

Always wanting to know the ‘why’ of how things work (or don’t) and how we can leverage within these parameters or innovate to improve them, I continue to develop my front-end coding skills as part of my ongoing journey of learning.

I'm passionate about innovation and sustainability, always keen on exploring how we can improve customer experience and the world we live in with bigger impact. I also love geeking out over AI ethics, puzzles of any kind, mix-media illustration and spending time in the ocean.

The Feature Length...

I’ve always been caught between two worlds: the creative and the scientific. From an early age, I found joy in sketching, creating and tinkering with projects, the blending of aesthetics and problem-solving is the core of who I am. This duality has and continues to shape my career and passions.

When starting my studies, I initially chose fashion over science, before discovering the world of textiles, where the intersection of science and art captivated me. This led me to shift my focus to a major in textiles with a minor in fashion. A balance that allowed me to channel my love for creativity and technical precision into something tangible and innovative, a theme that has remained central to my career.

Beginning my career in commercial textiles, I thrived on the challenge of balancing creativity with the demands of producing sustainable products that met strict performance standards. However facing limited growth opportunities and the impact of the  GFC, I seized the chance to travel to Colombia to live. After spending a year learning Spanish and working I returned to Australia where I stepped into Fashion primarily in design and then later leaning further into the production and logistics side of the industry.

While in Colombia I worked for a Property Insurance start-up operating in the states of New York & New Jersey. This provided me with a unique experience, both in working remotely (before it became common) and learning a completely new industry from scratch regulated by laws that differed greatly from those I was used to. Within 3 months I was promoted to Sales Team Manager, providing me with my first opportunity to manage a team and gain greater insights into business strategy regards staffing.

Later my experience in production & logistics enabled me to gain valuable skills shaping my business acumen and further developing my problem-solving skills with a more process-driven approach. Working as a pivotal link, orchestrating workflow between the many multiple teams and stakeholders both internally and externally. Furthermore, I was able to lead or otherwise contribute to projects implementing new operational systems, which opened me up to a deeper understanding of users beyond web-based interactions and into service design and information architecture and the business strategies behind these decisions.

This shift was a valuable challenge, however I missed the creative interplay that had always inspired me. Searching for the ideal balance has led me to the digital realm. Here technology’s constraints and opportunities perfectly match my love of problem-solving and creating visually impactful products.

Taking some time out to upskill, I further developed my UX/UI skills, as well as learning front-end coding languages. Coding became a new creative tool in my arsenal. At the same time, the design principles I learned in Textiles & Fashion— balance, colour, space, and alignment— are just as relevant in the digital world, and I’m excited to apply them in new and innovative ways.

It was during this time I connected with Kim Bartkowski who has been an inspiration and mentor, and User Experience (UX) along with Design Thinking were floated as a natural pivot given my propensity for both the visual and process-driven nature of my thinking. Alongside this I began freelancing to develop these new skills further, creating brand guidelines, and new websites with a strong UX focus as well as improving the user experience of sites.

As someone who always wants to know HOW and WHY things work (or don’t), I love ‘getting to the bottom’ of things to inform design solutions. It is this combination of research and design that excites me about UX/UI. It allows me to craft visually impactful designs with smooth, intuitive user experiences that marry my love of problem-solving with aesthetics. I’m constantly exploring new techniques and ideas, driven by an innate curiosity and a desire to blend the best of both worlds. My career pivot into tech is an evolution of this, embracing the Goldilocks balance of creativity and functionality.

For me, design and science aren’t opposing forces—but complementary elements, and it’s in their intersection that I find my true passion.
